Duty Description

 

Title:                                  TEACHER-Advanced Math: Pre-Algebra and beyond in Math & Science Specialty program

Reports to:                       Chair, Math/Science Specialty Department

Job Goal:                          To help gifted students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible members of society.

Qualifications:

v  Required: Bachelor or Master Degree in Mathematics and/or Master Degree in Secondary Mathematics from an accredited college or university. Experience in teaching gifted students. 3-5 years’ experience in middle and secondary mathematics teaching.

v  Desired: Master degree or beyond in Mathematics from an accredited college or university. National Board Certification in Adolescence & Young Adulthood Mathematics. Alabama Teacher’s Certificate.

v  Able to teach middle school, high school and college level math courses which include but are not limited to Honors Algebra II/Trig, Stats, Calculus I, II, III, and/or Differential Equations, Abstract Algebra, and Linear Algebra

v  Technological proficiency with the TI-Nspire graphing calculator and advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite

v  Minimal programming experience (example: HTML, Alice, Scratch, etc.)

v  Able to teach research principals to students participating in science and engineering fairs

v  Energetic, dedicated, and passionate about working with talented adolescents

v  Team player in group discussions and decisions

Performance Responsibilities:

v  Determines individual and class needs; establishes objectives and plans learning experiences.

v  Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time and meet objectives.

v  Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.

v  Evaluates the educational program and/or student progress.

v  Communicates with parents/guardians, colleagues, and community groups.

v  Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.

v  Maintains and submits records and reports.

v  Supports the mission and goals of the Math & Science program and ASFA.

v  Integrates instructional technologies into the classroom.

v  Works with Student Support Services to facilitate learning in all areas of the student’s life.

v  Collaborates with colleagues on teams, both in the classroom and the professional learning community

v  Works with all other instructors to facilitate flexible test dates and class attendance to benefit students.

v  Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board, state and federal rules and regulations.

v  Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.

v  Utilizes and communicates with internal technology such as, e-mail, grade reporting, etc.

v  Attends and provides adult leadership and support for school performances and other school and student functions

Additional Extra-Curricular Responsibilities:

v  Participates in ASFA Open House events.

v  Assists in the planning/implementing/working in the ASFA Math Tournament.

v  Coaches and chaperones the following Math competitions:

-        In/out-of-town math tournaments, State written math contest, Mu Alpha Theta National Convention, etc.

v  Participates/works in the following M/S specialty program events:

-        ASFA Senior Research Symposium, Math & Science In/Out-reach

 

Salary:  Salary Schedule Based on Degree and Experience

Service Term:    Ten Months
